While you wait
Waiting for a loved one in surgery can be unsettling and can often leave you in the waiting room for several hours with not much to do. We've compiled a few options available right here in the surgery center to get you up and out of the room for a little bit, while still staying close in case there are any updates.
Grab a snack
Our Market on Fifth is located just around the corner from the surgery center hallway. There are all kinds of drinks, sandwiches, breakfast options, candy bars, chips, and much more. If you’re looking for a little more than a snack, visit the Snack Bar/Gift Shop just down the hall near the front lobby for a full menu featuring items like fresh grilled cuban sandwiches and warm biscuits & gravy. Part of the proceeds raised at these locations comes right back to our hospital auxiliary.
Note: Market on Fifth only accepts cards. If you only have cash, you can load a premier market card with cash and use that card to pay for your items.
Gary & Mary Brewer Interfaith Chapel
Our beautiful new chapel, designed and donated by Gary & Mary Brewer, is a quiet, comforting place to spend some time reflecting, praying, or simply sitting. Set the lights to your comfort level, pick a chair, and shut the door if you’d like. Head right, and it’s the first door on your left.
Fun Fact: The stained glass panels on the back wall are original pieces that have been at WNH since the 1960s and were refurbished specifically for this area.
'Paint Your HeART Out' Art Gallery
Take a short walk down the hallway to see paintings donated by community members and WNH employees, created at a Paint Your HeART Out event in 2020. Artwork from other PYHO events can be found in the William Newton Cardiology clinic, the Winfield Healthcare Center, the administration hallway, and med/surg & ICU waiting areas.
Scavenger Hunt: See if you can find our inspiration for the painting style we chose for these pieces!
The Snyder Legacy
Right across from the chapel is the Snyder Legacy Wall. The Snyder Family has a long legacy of providing care in our area and now spans five generations of healthcare professionals across the country. Take a moment to read about the Snyders and the H. L. Snyder Medical Foundation Surgery Center’s namesake. To the left of the Legacy Wall, you’ll also find a list of donors who helped make the surgery center possible.

Second Century Campaign
The Second Century Campaign, initiated in 2017, reflects on 90+ years of Hospital history and prepares for another 100 years of service. The campaign supports William Newton Hospital’s long-term plan to expand facilities, meeting demands for access to healthcare in
Cowley County and neighboring regions. The H. L. Snyder Medical Foundation Surgery Center, which opened in early 2020, was Phase 1 of the six-phase campaign. Learn more about the campaign at wnhfoundation.org/2ndcentury
