At the celebration, held at the library, attendees also learned about cardiology basics from William Newton Cardiology’s Dr. Ryan Beard.

The event was an extension of the William Newton Healthcare Foundation’s Beats Go On initiative, a formal three-year community outreach effort of wellness education and information to address areas of health particularly important to our population.

The Moline celebration focused on the relationship between William Newton Hospital and the Moline Rural Health Clinic. Dr. James McDermott and retired hospital administrator Dick Vaught talked about the clinic’s early beginnings in the 1990s. The townspeople of Moline, along with William Newton Hospital, raised money to build the clinic and install radiograph capabilities. The clinic opened at its current location in 1995.

The group thanked the clinic board for its support and recognized the superior accomplishments of clinic staff during these difficult times of COVID-19. Vaught presented employees with a certificate thanking them for their service.

Dr. Ryan Beard then presented the basics of heart-healthy living and cardiology intervention available at William Newton Hospital with its state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab (or “cath lab”) which opened in January 2020.

“We are so fortunate to have an outstanding cardiologist in Winfield to care for the cardiology needs of patients in Southeast Kansas,” says Moline Rural Health Clinic practitioner Shirley Black, APRN.

Dr. Beard offers office visits and hospital consults and serves as the medical director for the cath lab. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Beard, contact William Newton Cardiology at 620-222-6264.
