William Newton Hospital was recognized for excellence in public relations and marketing for projects created by the hospital’s marketing team.

Presented by the Kansas Association of Health Care Communicators, the Emerald Awards are given annually to hospitals across the state that excel in internal communications, external communications, special events, advertising, and other categories.

“Our entire organization is proud of the excellent public relations and marketing efforts that earned this outstanding recognition,” said Ben Quinton, William Newton Hospital chief executive officer.

The Emerald Awards were presented at the Kansas Association of Health Care Communicators Spring Conference on April 12, in Hutchinson, Kansas. Marketing professionals from Georgia with extensive health care experience evaluated this year’s 44 entries for planning and research, implementation, cost effectiveness, and results.

The William Newton Hospital team earned an Emerald Award for the marketing and communications campaign for the Phase I Surgical Department Expansion Groundbreaking Ceremony held in August 2018.

A second Emerald Award was given for a campaign for the William Newton Hospital swing bed program. This project was also selected as the Best of Show. Entitled "Fine-tuning the Swing Bed Funnel," the campaign was designed to increase swing-bed utilization using a "funnel" graphic to help patients and providers visually understand how swing beds integrate with the recovery process.

“Judges praised the measurable results of William Newton Hospital’s campaign, calling it ‘brilliant’ and a ‘case study’ to share with other marketers of critical-access hospitals,” said Cindy Samuelson, Kansas Hospital Association vice president of member and public relations

In addition to the two Emerald Awards, the marketing team earned three Certificates of Merit for the HouseCalls annual report, Putting the HeART Back into Health Care calendar, and Larry Hatteberg video script. The team includes Sarah Bryant, director of marketing and business development, and Kylie Stamper, marketing coordinator.

Bryant shared her excitement in earning the Best in Show title, “Each of these projects is a testament to the spirit of teamwork at William Newton Hospital. We didn’t do this alone. Earning a Best in Show recognition among hospitals and healthcare systems 10 times our size shows the power of collaboration and speaks to the commitment from our leaders, employees, providers, volunteers, and donors to deliver the absolute best healthcare to the communities we serve.”
