Junebug Jog Returns in Person at WHS
May 20, 2021
One of Winfield’s most popular races will be returning to an in-person event for its 32nd year. After transitioning to virtual in 2020, participants can now register for the Junebug Jog events to be held Saturday, June 12 at a new start and finish location, Winfield High School.
“This event has been going strong for more than three decades. Switching up the course will offer something new,” William Newton Hospital Director of Marketing Sarah Johnson says.
Johnson explained the two host organizations, William Newton Hospital and Winfield Recreation Commission, had planned on moving the event to Winfield High School after postponing 2020’s event to the fall.
“Junebug Jog is always in June! Delaying it meant Southwestern College was in session, so we had to go to plan B. Then, when pandemic conditions didn’t improve we went completely virtual,” explains Johnson. “We liked our plan B idea so much, we decided to give it a try in 2021.”
The scenic course begins and ends near the main entrance of Winfield High School. The course still includes its iconic turnaround point at the Kansas Veterans Home. The Jr. Junebug races will take place at the Joe Vann track.
The one-mile run or walk begins at 7:30 a.m., the classic 5k starts at 8:00 a.m., and the Jr. Junebug 100-meter dash for ages 8 and under begins at 9:00 a.m.
The first 150 participants to register for the 5K or one-mile will receive a t-shirt. To guarantee a shirt on race day, the deadline to register is May 26. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Door prize drawings and awards will occur at the conclusion of the race events.
Online registration is now open at RunSignUp.com. Participants can also register in person at the Winfield Recreation Commission. Race-day registration is welcome.
