Junebug Jog Joins New Virtual Challenge
Sep 16, 2020
After one of Winfield’s most popular races was postponed due to the pandemic, hosts of the Junebug Jog transitioned to virtual. Runners can now participate in the 31st annual event Monday, September 21 through October 5. Registration closes October 3.
“We’ve had success in creating virtual events for our patrons since the onset of the pandemic,” said Troy Moree, Superintendent of the Winfield Recreation Commission. “The Junebug Jog will look different this year. But with the race perks we’ve included, we hope our loyal running enthusiasts will embrace the new format.”
For just $15, Junebug joggers receive a race shirt, commemorative Junebug Jog face mask (first 100 registrants), digital bib, and digital finisher's certificate.
While the finish line on the iconic Southwestern College track is not available, runners of all ages have the flexibility to run anywhere. Road, trail, track, and treadmill are all options readily available in Cowley County.
“You pick the weather, the course, and a convenient time to keep your Junebug Jog tradition going,” said Ruth Bumgarner, William Newton Hospital Healthways Coordinator.
In partnership with Walnut Valley Outpost, the hospital has also started a virtual challenge connecting Junebug Jog with another local race and two fitness challenges.
The P3: Push, Pedal & Pace Challenge invites people of all ages and fitness levels to complete 200 pushups, 100 cycling miles, and either the Junebug Jog or Winfield Community Food Pantry Run.
“This has been a difficult year. The food pantry needs help more than ever, and people need opportunities and motivation to continue exercising safely amid 2020’s obstacles,” said Tara Sutton, Walnut Valley Outpost owner and Winfield Community Food Pantry Run organizer.
Registration for each of the P3: Push, Pedal & Pace Challenge events is now open at RunSignUp.com. The Pedal and Pace portion is just $20 and occurs throughout the month of October.****
